What is layering?
Layering, better known as the art of combining various perfumes, is a technique that consists of combining several pre-existing scents in that way create new and personalized scents.
This technique has been used for centuries in the Middle East and now, thanks to the most advanced perfume brands, it has become a revolutionary trend in the perfume world in the West.
Play and experiment with mixing olfactory notes, fragrance families, intensities ... The possibilities are endless and anyone can put layering into practice to put their own personal stamp on a perfume. Although, if you are a beginner, it is important that you know some tips and tricks first.
Tips for practicing layering
Since it is such a new technique, you may not know where to start. With the following tips and tricks that we give you, you will get the push you need to get started with this technique to create perfect combinations. Challenge yourself!
How many perfumes should I use?
Start by mixing only 2 perfumes. We all know the saying Less is More and if you're just starting out, we recommend experimenting with just two perfumes. Little by little you discover what you like and you can do a lot more complex mixtures create with more than two scents.
Which notes can I combine?
Combine perfumes that have a common note such as vanilla, jasmine or green tea. You can also use a perfume with a leading, more dominant note, such as rose, combine with another, more faceted scent. As time goes by you will be able to make more daring creations and contrasting notes to mix, such as spicy and sweet.
Likewise, we recommend that you opt for linear aromas to start with. They retain the same scent from the moment you apply them until they disappear from your skin. For example perfumes with musk or woody notes.
And which olfactory families?
At first you can choose to mix aromas belonging to the same olfactory family, for example woody with woody, floral with floral... When you discover what suits you and you start to master the technique, we encourage you recommend using different families, such as woody with fruity or floral with spicy.
And remember, the perfume you create by mixing other existing ones will not belong to a specific fragrance family. It will be unique and personal.
Which scents go first?
Although the layering technique is very much based on personal taste, if you are not convinced by very heavy or strong aromas, you can start by mixing only light scents. If you decide to combine aromas of different intensity, we recommend that you first apply the heavier perfume, so that it does not overpower the fragrance notes of the lighter.
How and where do I mix the scents?
You can choose to mix it directly on the body to spray, or you can a tub use. We recommend using our refillable vaporizer, which allows you to take your creation with you anywhere thanks to its small size.
If you choose to spray it on your body, you can mix the perfumes in the same area or each perfume in a different part. Remember to always moisturize your skin well to get a longer fragrance life on your skin.
